An Important Announcement From Triumph CRC...Dear Fellow Survivors, Co-Survivors and Supporters,
As you may have noticed over the past few months, the Triumph Cancer Resource Center has had to scale back its operations significantly. It is with great regret, but by force that we have had to do so because of a shortfall in personnel and other resources needed to maintain our current operational model. We would like to take this opportunity to share with you what has been happening behind the scenes, as well as what the future holds for our non-profit organization.
Last year we were blessed with the generous donation of a temporary leased space in Olde-School Square, along with several other furnishings and services in-kind from area businesses. And it was because of this outpouring of support that we were able to open our doors to the public and begin helping those affected by cancer in our community much sooner than we had originally planned. In doing so, we were optimistic that we would be able to secure the resources needed to maintain and grow our operations, but the reality of the current economic conditions, challenges of a volunteer-based staff, and the impact of cancer in our own personal lives has greatly affected the development of the Triumph Cancer Resource Center thus far.
It is for these and other reasons that we have decided to terminate operations at our Olde-School Square facility effective immediately.
In the eight months that TCRC has been operational, we have had the chance to partner with local health care and cancer resource providers to offer free pilot programming and showcase some of the wonderful support opportunities for those affected by cancer—right here in our own community. To date, we have hosted nearly 50 programs and served more than 175 participants.
During that same time, we also saw many new initiatives take shape to address the growing support needs of cancer survivors and co-survivors in our area. We applaud the medical community, along with all of the other local cancer resource providers, for their continued efforts to enhance the quality of cancer care and support available in Northeast Wisconsin through these valuable services they provide.
When TCRC first set out on its mission to better support those affected by cancer in our community, we pledged not to duplicate services that already existed, but rather to promote and enhance what was already available, while working in partnership with other area resource providers to fill voids in support through the development of new program offerings.
In an effort to uphold this pledge and better support those affected by cancer in our area, we will be evaluating our initial pilot programming and looking at how we can restructure the Triumph Cancer Resource Center to better meet the changing needs of our community. In doing so, we plan to work with our Medical Advisory Board, reach out to other cancer resource providers, and gather additional feedback from local survivors and co-survivors.
As survivors and co-survivors ourselves, we understand the impact of cancer—from living in the day-to-day, to the ripple effects it can have on those around you, as well as later on in life. But we have also come to realize the priceless power of support in traveling the road to survivorship.
That is why we believe wholeheartedly in the value of a community-integrated approach to cancer care and support. And we know firsthand from those we have been blessed to meet through this endeavor, that there are many more of you who share this vision too. You have served on our board of directors and Medical Advisory Board, offered your time and talents as volunteers, donated your services, supported our organization financially, and participated in our programs and special events. You have been the driving force that has made the Triumph Cancer Resource Center a reality—and we thank you for your interest, involvement and dedication because collectively, you are making our community a better place for those affected by cancer.
As we continue our efforts to help create a more unified local cancer resource network in the months ahead, we ask for your continued support and gladly welcome your ideas, talents and passion for this cause. Please be sure to check back for updates on TCRC's development and for more information on how you can get involved! (And stay tuned for a new page with a listing of local cancer resource links...coming soon!). Together we are building a bridge to broader cancer support for the people of Northeast Wisconsin!
Humbly yours,
The Triumph Cancer Resource Center, Inc. Board of Directors
